Au-some Evening is a specially designed, sensory-friendly event where children with autism spectrum disorder and other sensory sensitivities, and their families, can explore the museum in a calm, supportive environment.

We turn down the noise, dim the lights, and open our doors so every child can play, explore, and thrive at their own pace.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT AT AU-SOME MORNINGS

To create a more comfortable experience, the following exhibit elements will be powered down or modified for the duration of the event:

• Auto Shop Car Elements

• Farm Clouds

• Construction House

• Hammer and Nails Items

• Basement Dehumidifier

ADDITIONAL SENSORY SUPPORTS

Our Quiet Cove will remain unlocked throughout the event as a calm retreat space whenever your child needs a moment to decompress.

Classroom 1 will be set up as a dedicated sensory-friendly space for the morning.

The lights will be off or dimmed, and small table toys, including Magna-Tiles and Squigs, will be available for open-ended, low-stimulation play.

Families will also have electronic access to our PECs board via QR code at the front desk

Two mobile exhibits, the Light Lab and Flight Lab, will be brought in to the space as well.

SOCIAL STORY

We want every family to feel prepared and confident before arriving. A museum Social Story is available to read, download, and print ahead of your visit so your child knows what to expect when they walk through our doors.

VIEW OUR SOCIAL STORY

Printed copies of the Social Story will also be available at the front desk the day of the event.

COST

Cost: $5 per Person

Pre-registration highly recommended – This event has an intentional registration cap, and walk-ins will only be welcome if there are tickets available online.
