Discovery Corner- Now open!

June 5th, 2015

Discovery Corner is located directly next to the Children’s Museum at the corner of 5th and French Streets and features 10 interactive elements.  The classroom incorporates essential elements to outdoor play including an entry feature, open play space, climbing/crawling area, building space, nature art, music and movement, sensory gardens, discovery paths, gathering area, quiet reading nook, and storage. These elements support the guiding principles of outdoor classrooms as outlined by Nature Explore, a collaborative project of Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.

We have so many cool features included in Discovery Corner.  There are musical instruments, sidewalk chalk, building blocks, garden tools and dirt to play with, books to read, herbs to smell and so much more!  Our outdoor classroom is the perfect way to have fun as a family.

Discovery Corner will qualify and become an outdoor classroom, certified by Nature Explore in the spring of 2016.  Once certified, it will be the first outdoor classroom in the region.  The Nature Explore Classroom Certification Program is a national initiative that recognizes schools and other organizations that have made a commitment to providing outdoor classrooms and comprehensive programming to help children use the natural world as an integral part of learning.

Discovery Corner is open during regular museum hours, weather permitting.
