Meet Charlee, a nine year old friend of the museum. due to epilepsy, Charlee struggles with over stimulation. She and her mom, Amanda, found our new sensory friendly backpacks to be helpful in creating a calming environment full of play. Stop at the front desk during your next visit to the museum to check out one of the backpacks.
Sensory Friendly backpacks made possible through a sponsorship by UPMC Health Plan.
Sensory Friendly Playtime at the Children’s Museum
If you wish to visit us during a quieter time of the week, we recommend that you come play on Sundays from 3:00-5:00pm. During these times the museum sees less visitors and would be ideal to give children with sensory processing disorders and their families an opportunity to have a fun and enjoyable learning experience with reduced crowds, wait time, and background noise.
The expERIEnce Children’s Museum Social Story
The Museum’s Social Story provides children with an understanding of what they will experience and how to plan for a Children’s Museum visit.
